Compress an image
Compress a JPEG, HEIC, or WebP image toward a target size you choose, in KB or MB, without leaving your browser.
WebP is compressed to WebP, keeping transparency intact. Animated WebP is not supported.
Your images are processed on this device and are never sent to a server.
This browser doesn't support the features needed for image compression
What this tool does
- Accepts JPEG and static WebP directly; HEIC/HEIF is converted to JPEG first, then compressed.
- You set the target size yourself, in KB or MB, from 10KB up to 50MB.
- Adjusts quality first, and only resizes the image if quality adjustment alone can't reach the target.
- Keeps the output format tied to the source: JPEG and HEIC-derived images become JPEG, WebP stays WebP.
How to use it
- Select a JPEG, HEIC/HEIF, or WebP image.
- Enter a target size in KB or MB, or choose one of the presets.
- Press compress and wait for the result.
- Compare the output size and preview against the original before downloading.
Important limitations
- Reaching the exact target size is not guaranteed; if it can't be reached, the result is marked as unreachable instead of silently returning an oversized file.
- PNG is not supported on this page — use PNG target-size compression instead.
- Animated WebP is not supported and is rejected before compression starts.
- If the target size is already larger than the original file, the original file is returned unchanged.
- Compression can change image quality and, in some cases, the image's pixel dimensions.
Privacy
Compression runs in a Dedicated Worker in your browser using Canvas and OffscreenCanvas. Images are never uploaded to a server.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if LimiFile can't reach my target size?
The result is marked as unable to reach the target instead of being silently returned oversized, so you can decide whether to use it, lower your target, or try a different tool.
Can I compress a PNG here?
No, PNG isn't accepted on this page. Use PNG target-size compression, which keeps the file as PNG.
Will compressing change how my photo looks?
Possibly. LimiFile adjusts quality first and only resizes the image if quality adjustment alone can't reach your target size.
What's the difference between this page and the 500KB page?
This page lets you set any target size yourself. The 500KB page uses a fixed 500KB target with one tap and also accepts PNG.
Does this tool support animated WebP?
No, animated WebP is detected and rejected before compression starts.
